It's supposed to reduce the negative side effects of methotrexate so yes but some people do still have hair loss. But it's better than nothing I guess

It sounds like there's a question here about whether folic acid can help with hair loss caused by methotrexate — a very common concern for people managing RA.

Folic acid (vitamin B9) is often prescribed alongside methotrexate specifically because methotrexate works by blocking the body's use of folate. This can affect fast-growing cells, including those in hair follicles, which is why hair thinning or loss can happen. The good news is that folic acid supplementation can help reduce some of methotrexate's side effects, including hair loss. However, it doesn't work for everyone, and hair thinning can still occur even when taking it.

A myRAteam member shared: "I am on methotrexate and also take folic acid — biotin has helped with the texture of my hair, and I have less fallout."

Here are some general tips that may help:

- Take folic acid as prescribed alongside methotrexate
- Consider biotin (vitamin B7) — some find it helpful, though results vary
- Use moisturizing shampoos to manage dryness or texture changes
- Avoid tight hairstyles and be gentle when brushing
- Talk to your rheumatologist before adding any supplements It's important to never stop or change your methotrexate dose without speaking to your rheumatologist first. If hair loss feels significant or sudden, flag it with your care team right away — they can help find the right balance for managing both your RA and this side effect.
