Glad to find a support team. Frankly, I believe that there are a few doctors who work with the entire body and that have been able to trace RA to one of many autoimmune diseases that are actually curable. I am trying to get into a program but they are expensive, insurance doesn't cover them, and traditional medicine and doctors are only trained to treat, not cure. Look forward to sharing my journey as i try to get off methotrexate and hopefully someday beat my immune system back into normal… read more

What a great question — and what an inspiring mindset to bring to managing RA! Many myRAteam members have explored holistic and functional medicine approaches alongside their traditional treatment plans, and some have reported meaningful improvements in their symptoms.

It's worth knowing that while RA currently has no confirmed cure, many people do achieve remission — where symptoms become minimal or disappear for extended periods. That's a very real and hopeful goal. Some approaches that myRAteam members have found helpful alongside traditional care include:

- Dietary changes — going gluten-free, eliminating sugar, or trying ketogenic eating
- Reducing processed foods — some report lower inflammation as a result
- Complementary therapies — acupuncture, massage, and mindfulness meditation
- Cannabis/CBD — some members supplement their treatment with this

One myRAteam member shared that cutting out sugar, dairy, and processed foods led to noticeable reductions in swelling and pain. One important caution — please don't stop or reduce methotrexate without close guidance from your rheumatologist. Unmanaged RA can cause serious, irreversible joint damage even when symptoms feel manageable. Any transition away from medication really benefits from medical supervision to protect your joints long-term.

Wishing you all the best on this journey — it sounds like you're approaching it with real determination! 💪
