Members rallied around someone experiencing severe wrist pain during a flare, sharing practical strategies that have helped them manage similar debilitating symptoms. Several members recommended wearing soft wrist braces at night to prevent stress from sleep movements, using ice and heat in 20-minute intervals, applying prescription anti-inflammatory creams, and seeking hand specialists for localized steroid injections that many found brought instant relief. A recurring theme was the unpredictable nature of RA wrist pain, the importance of distinguishing between RA and osteoarthritis through imaging, and the value of listening to your body to know when pain requires medical intervention versus home management.

Good morning and Happy New Year! Severe wrist pain during a rheumatoid arthritis flare-up is unfortunately common. The inflammation can make even light activities, like holding a phone or blanket, feel unbearable. Rest your wrist, avoid overuse, and consider using a wrist splint for support. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications or cold compresses may help. If the pain persists, consult your doctor for further evaluation and treatment options.

Update to my new year's post. I saw my rheumatologist in January. She put me back on Rinvoq and i am starting to feel like my old self. The pain in my hands are gone. I still wear my bamboo compression gloves at night to avoid stiffness in the morning. But at least I got my life back. I hope I don't get the fast heart rate that I had before. Doctors could not find the cause of the fast heart rate so we are going to try Rinvoq once more.

Wear a soft wrist brace at night. Ice then heat @20 min int. RX Anti inflamm cream from your RA doc. Also you might see a hand specialist and have local steroid injections? Mine clears up instantly.

While inflamed protect from use bc that pain is so sharp and could cause accidents or falling.

Be safe.

Hand specialist, local steroid injection if its inflammation, Soft wrist brace at night bc our hands get abused during sleep. I sleep on mine and roll on them, yank my blankets and pillow. Thumb/wrist braces should be worn at night to stabilize the joints and you will notice the difference. I also use Rx anti inflam cream with 4 or 5 ingredients that really helps too.
I also use good tools when gardening and compression gloves under my gloves. Hope this helps
