Members overwhelmingly agreed that morning stiffness and difficulty getting out of bed is a hallmark symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, with many describing the need to move slowly, use mobility aids like canes or walkers for the first few steps, and spend time stretching or massaging joints before standing. Several members shared practical strategies that help ease morning pain, including hot showers, water therapy, gentle stretching routines, keeping lotion nearby for dry skin, and taking prednisone during flares. A recurring theme was the importance of patience and routine, with members emphasizing that motion is lotion, winter makes symptoms worse, and giving yourself grace to take it one step at a time is essential.

Getting up in the morning is rough. I am always stiff in the morning but a hot shower helps.

Mimi, I'm glad that flare up has passed. Prednisone is great to get through the pain. Warm water therapy works well for me too. But this time of year it takes a lot to go do it. I don't want to be out in the cold.

I have found water therapy to be really helpful in managing RA.
I recently had a bad flare but prednisone is VERY helpful. I feel pretty good now. The flare lasted about 21/2 weeks.
Good luck to you.

I used to be just stiff in the morning but lately the stiffness has turned into very painful stiffness. When I first wake up, it hurts just to move. Then when I try to stand the muscles in my back hurts from just standing. The bathroom door is right by my bed and I have to grab the door frame and stand slowly. This happens not only in the morning but also any time I have been sitting for a while. Sometimes I just dread getting up.

Yep, every morning in the winter. Not to bad in the summer. I think it's just another gift from our little RA friend. after all RA is the gift that just keeps on giving.
I also do stretching in the morning it helps to loosen you up a bit.
Hugs and Blessings
