I had an appointment this past Thursday and I dressed up with a pair of boots that had maybe a 3" heel- nothing crazy. Now since Thursday I can barely walk, limping, legs feel like they weigh 20 lbs each, with fatigue into my hips and my arches hurt. (Don't have the regular wearing heels pain like ball of the foot pain.) But when I was wearing them (didn't have to walk too far) I had excruciating pain on the top of the foot/ankle like my bones wanted to break. It was something I have never… read more
I wear only heels of max 1". When trying on shoes for my elder son's wedding recently, I almost died when I tried on a pair with heels. Excrutiating pain in my ankles as you described. So I realised high heels are a certain no-no!
I have had weird foot pain but not as you described. My only thought would be that you 'stressed' your feet and legs while wearing the hills since it is not your daily routine. You can 'stress' your body in many ways and it doesn't always feel painful at that time. Not really sure just my thoughts. I have had many flare ups after 'stressing' something out that I had not felt pain in at the time. For instance, carrying a bag that's too heavy or too many groceries in at once...you will feel a flare up later but at that time feel fine. Hard lesson to learn to know what the 'new normal' is and what action is ok to do. Hope you get relief soon all I can suggest is to take what anti inflammatory med you can and ice for 15/20 minute intervals Hug to you.

It could just be just me but there is no possible way I could wear 3" heels. There was a time when I could but not since I've been diagnosed with RA. It really totally sucks but just something to possibly consider. It can be hard to come to grips with certain changes we are forced to make but in the long run its usually for the best. There's also the stress factor aspect as was already mentioned.
I definitely agree with Staci013. You are used to doing certain things but the RA will not allow us to
continue our old ways. Stressing our body will cause a flare-up.
I don't wear them often but I am so not happy with the idea of being totally unable to wear them :'(
