I am experiencing a Level 8
💥FLARE💥 and have noticed that along with swollen fingers, CMC Thumb joint swelling and wrist pain now my hand is tingling as well. I take 600MG of Gabapentin daily but it could be diabetic Neuropathy. Has anyone else had this happen during a bad Flare??

Members responded warmly to a question about hand tingling during a level 8 RA flare, with many confirming that swelling pressing on nerves can cause tingling and sharing that raising hands above heart level, using compression gloves, and elevating arms on pillows can bring relief. Several members also shared personal tips like foam grip adaptations for tools and brushes, peppermint oil for chest tightness, and ice or cold water for swollen hands. A recurring theme was the connection between stress, inflammation, and flares, with the community offering both practical advice and heartfelt emotional support throughout.

If I hang my arms down like with walking, my hands swell and tingle. I have had costochronditis also before. It’s not fun. I used Vicks vapor rub and a heating pad. I got mine painting ceilings and 9 foot walls. If you have a good case, it hurts to raise your arms and to breathe. After resting it after a couple of weeks I tried painting wall again. Blew my elbow out and had to have a tendon repair. The Lord didn’t want me to paint. I love to paint because it’s instant gratification.
I use ice and run cold water over my hands. I use my compression gloves. I know that it’s aggravating to wear the gloves. I also elevate my hands with pillows when I sit in my recliner.
Remember to raise your hand above your heart . The tingle is from nerve irritation and the swelling. It’s just RA messing with you! Actually when I could take anti- inflammatory meds it made my swelling worse.
Good luck.

I have some peppermint essential oil that I put behind my ears and one down my sternum and tell myself it’s not my heart. Then breathe the peppermint in until pain subsides. Usually a few minutes to an hour before it stops.
