Have you received Rituximab (Rituxan) infusions for your RA, and what was your experience?

Rituximab is a biologic that targets B cells in your immune system to reduce inflammation and joint damage. Since you've tried other medications without success, this could be a good next step.

What to expect with Rituximab:

The first course typically involves two infusions given two weeks apart. Each infusion takes between 3-4 hours. You'll also receive corticosteroids through an IV about 30 minutes before each Rituximab infusion to help prevent side effects.

Timeline for improvement:

You likely won't notice improvements until 3 months or more after treatment begins. Once it starts working, the benefits can last 6-12 months or longer. Your rheumatologist may suggest repeating treatments every 6 months.

Important considerations:

Since Rituximab works by suppressing your immune system, there's an increased risk of infections. Your doctor should screen you for hepatitis B before starting treatment, as Rituximab can reactivate dormant viral infections.

Many people adjust well to infusions after initial concerns. Bring something to do during the infusion, stay hydrated beforehand, and wear comfortable clothing.
