I'm so sorry you're going through such an intense flare. When you're at a level 10 with severe swelling and muscle weakness, it's really important to hold off on exercise right now. Your body is telling you it needs rest, not movement.
During an active flare, especially one this severe, exercising isn't recommended. Pushing through could worsen your symptoms or delay healing. The best approach is to listen to your body and wait until the flare begins to resolve before returning to any stretches or yoga.
While you're healing, focus on:
- Getting plenty of rest
- Using heat therapy (heating pad for 20 minutes) to relax muscles and ease stiffness
- Ice therapy if certain areas are particularly swollen
- Taking your medications as prescribed
Once your flare subsides and you get the go-ahead from your rheumatologist, you can gradually return to gentle movement. Starting with seated stretches or very gentle hip movements would be appropriate when you're ready.
Please reach out to your rheumatology provider about this severe flare. They may need to adjust your treatment plan or prescribe something to help you through this episode.
