Why do I continually see yoga suggested as an activity when with RA, our wrists are some of the most affected joints? In fact, all joints necessary to get on and off the floor are the most painful. Thank you, I find water exercise very aerobic. Funny, in the last month I've lost weight doing almost nothing--just cut sugar and gluten.
Hi I totally thought the same thing until I discovered adaptive yoga. It's chair based, low impact, and extremely gentle. The reason it's so much better than traditional exercise is that mind-body practices incorporate breathing and meditation which helps your body to get out of fight or flight mode and return to rest and digest. The nervous system of patients with RA get stuck in 'alert' mode - constantly being in fight or flight. The body physiologically never gets to rest! I have had RA for 40 years and started a nonprofit organisation providing free online adaptive yoga classes for people like us, who traditional yoga wasn't accessible for! Check it out , hope it helps! adaptiveyogalive.com
I totally agree but I have found taking water aerobics has really helped me a lot doesn’t take the weight off as fast as I’d like but it does make me feel better
Chair yoga is good.
Deep breathing and learning breathing techniques in yoga stimulate the vagus nerve which can improve your immune.
I stretch, but only on my bed. I cannot get down on the floor, it would take an army to get me back up! The stretches help when the sciatica is bad, but the only other form of exercise I can tolerate is the cycle that you sit in the chair and pedal or put on the table for arms. Very low impact, but I can tell that is is helping my muscle tone come back.
