I was also on the tablets and had issues with my liver. Now I’m on Enbrel and have been doing ok. Random flares here and there but nothing like before.

I was on the tablet not the injection. Was good for quite a while, but then they started to affect my liver so was taken off them. Now on Humira injections and touch wood I've been fine. Still have flare ups but not as often as before.

How are methotrexate injections working for people with RA?
Many myRAteam members have shared positive experiences with methotrexate injections. One member mentioned having injections for two years with no side effects, while another found that any symptoms only lasted 24 hours or less, feeling great the rest of the week.
Some members noticed improvements over time. One shared that after about six months, they no longer felt worse the day after taking methotrexate. Another member reported hardly any flares after three months, saying "I feel more like the old me."
However, experiences vary. Some members found injections caused worse symptoms compared to pills, though these were typically short-lived. Common side effects can include:
- Nausea and gastrointestinal issues
- Fatigue and brain fog for a day or two after injection
- Possible lump at injection site (usually temporary)
The injectable form often works better than pills because it's absorbed more effectively into your bloodstream. If you experience a lump after injection, warm compresses and rotating injection sites can help.
Your doctor will likely prescribe folic acid to reduce side effects and monitor your liver function with routine blood tests. Keep your rheumatologist informed about any changes you notice so they can adjust your dose if needed.
