I agree with everything you said. With myself I don't take or use fish oil or any probiotics. Probably because I have Sjogren's & Lupus, PBC and multiple lung problems and so my rheumatologist instructs me what to take to make sure there are no conflicts. I forgot to mention in my other replies that I am also on Methotrexate - 10mg once a week but prednisone -5mg - one a day.
I take vitamin D3. My rheumatologist checks my D3 levels a few times a year. I take a multi vitamin. Its a better quality brand recommended by my family doctor. I have taken fish oil but it gave me heartburn, so I have not taken it for awhile. I also take a probiotic. I avoid things like echinacea, which revs up the immune system. A revved up immune system is my problem in the first place. It is not recommended for RA.
We have to do our research. Supplements are big business but not well regulated. I always list the supplements that I take during doctor visits as they may cause interactions with RX medications. This is a good question, Gemma. The amount of information and misinformation can be overwhelming. I try to eat a well balanced diet so that my food can be my best source of the nutrients that I need. Emphasis on the try to eat well :)
Donnakilory thank you
I take vitamin d capsules. I eat fish a lot. Can't have eggs I'm allergic. I can barely leave my apartment after losing use of my legs.
Omega 3 complex. I use fresh turmeric and ginger but you can take those in capsule form. Some use Vitamin D too. I get it from fish, eggs and sunlight living in the sunny west. Some in multi-vitamin as well.
