Even with prescription medications, many people with RA still experience some level of pain. Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and biologics help slow disease progression and reduce inflammation, but they may not eliminate pain completely.

Pain levels can vary significantly between individuals and may fluctuate during flare-ups. Some myRAteam members report needing additional pain management strategies alongside their prescribed medications. Common pain management approaches that can complement RA medications include:

• Over-the-counter pain relievers
• Topical medications (creams, patches, gels)
• Heat and cold therapy
• Physical therapy
• Mindfulness and meditation
• Massage
• Exercise when appropriate

Remember to always discuss any additional pain management strategies with your healthcare provider before trying them.

If the RA meds are working, I would say 2-6 for RA pain however I also have OA and permanent nerve damage in my left arm and hand so my pain pretty much stays around 6 sometimes up to 8.
