What are normal CCP test levels and what do they mean for rheumatoid arthritis (RA)?
The anti-CCP test is highly specific for RA, with up to 98% accuracy. Between 60-80% of people with RA have anti-CCP antibodies in their blood. If you test positive for anti-CCP antibodies, there's a high likelihood you have RA. People who test positive for high levels of anti-CCP have a 90% chance of having RA and often experience more severe cases. These antibodies can appear years before other RA symptoms develop.
Even with a negative anti-CCP test, you could still have RA if the levels are low in your blood. This is called seronegative RA. Your doctor will use other tests and symptoms to make a diagnosis.
