I got RA from my dad’s genetics 🧬 and I just found this week after I had lost vision in my right eye. My son 14 so will I have to get him tested now or wait until he starts to show symptoms of it ?

While having a parent with RA does increase the risk, it doesn't mean your son will definitely develop the condition. People with a first-degree relative (parent or sibling) with RA are about 2-4 times more likely to develop it compared to the general population. However, RA only affects about 1-2% of people overall.

While having a parent with RA does increase the risk, it doesn't mean your son will definitely develop the condition. People with a first-degree relative (parent or sibling) with RA are about 2-4 times more likely to develop it compared to the general population. However, RA only affects about 1-2% of people overall.

Certain genes, like variations in the HLA-DR gene, can increase RA risk, but having these genes doesn't guarantee developing the condition. The best approach is to:
• Be aware of early RA symptoms (joint pain, stiffness, swelling)
• Keep track of any symptoms that last more than 3 days or occur several times per month
• Consult a healthcare provider if concerning symptoms develop
• Don't wait too long to seek medical attention, as early diagnosis and treatment (within 3-6 months of first symptoms) can help prevent joint damage

There's no need to test your son now if he's not showing symptoms, but staying vigilant and responding quickly to any warning signs is important.
