Hair loss from methotrexate is typically mild and temporary. When people stop taking the medication, their hair usually grows back. However, if you have underlying genetic hair loss patterns, the medication may have accelerated that process, which could potentially be more lasting.

It's completely understandable to feel frustrated about hair loss on top of managing your RA. You're not alone - many myRAteam members have shared similar experiences with hair changes while taking methotrexate. Important next steps:
- Consult your rheumatologist about your ongoing hair loss
- They may refer you to a dermatologist to investigate other potential causes
- Consider gentle hair care practices:
* Use a light touch when brushing
* Avoid tight hairstyles that pull on the scalp
* Minimize frequent brushing/combing

Remember to be patient with yourself during this process. Your healthcare team can help develop a plan to address both your symptoms and concerns about hair loss.

In my experience it depends on the medicine and the person. Usually it will start getting thicker. Mine goes up and down depending on what medicine I'm on. The Teyenne I'm on is thinning my hair. I had just started to get in thicker when I went if the hydroxycloriquine. It's definitely a battle for some people.
