Hi! I've been dealing with sciatica for 2 months. I was given steroid pack, flexeril and robaxin. The steroids helped but once the pack was finished the pain returned. My other Dr put me on gabapentin for anxiety and it seems to be relieving the sciatica pain. Any replies from people who have taken this drug would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Members shared mixed experiences with gabapentin for sciatica and nerve pain, with some finding significant relief at doses ranging from 100mg to 600mg daily, while others reported it stopped working after several months or years and required switching to Lyrica. Several members described side effects including weight gain, dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, and feeling mentally foggy or in a daze, though many only realized how sedated they felt after stopping the medication. A recurring theme was that gabapentin's effectiveness varies greatly by individual, with many emphasizing the importance of slowly tapering off the medication rather than stopping abruptly to avoid withdrawal problems.

Mine was the lowest dose. I'm a lightweight with anyan med. I didn't notice anything while I was in it. When I got off I realized I had been in a daze for 3 years. But my daughters take it for fibromyalgia and they have higher doses and they don't have any side effects.

I used to used gabapentin for the nerve damage in my arm and hand. It worked for 3 years then I had to go to Lyrica.

Thank you for replying. The flexeril did make me tired but I was given that with the steroids. I think the relief I felt was from the steroids not the flexeril so the Dr put me on robaxin which worked better than the flexeril but still had significant pain. The gabapentin seems to give me noticeable relief about an hour and a half after taking it. Tylenol doesn't do anything for me and I can't take NSAIDs because I had an ulcer. Did u have any negative side effects from the gabapentin? Im so confused at this point. Pain bad been going on for 2 months. I have follow up with ortho today for MRI results. I just want to feel better.

When my 2nd ulnar surgery went bad that is what the put me on for the severe nerve pain. It quit working after a couple of years. So they weened me off and put me on Lyrica. I did not realize just how medicated I was until I was totally off.

I was taking Gapapentin for pain but had lots of side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, and pressure headaches. I have since been weaned of the medication by family doctor due to all the side effects I was experiencing.
