Members rallied around someone experiencing severe stomach flares while awaiting ultrasound results, sharing that gastrointestinal issues are deeply intertwined with RA through both the inflammatory process itself and medication side effects. Several members described their own diagnoses of IBS, gallbladder removal complications, and medication-related gut problems, offering practical strategies including Bentyl for quick relief, daily fiber and prunes, cutting dairy and saturated fats, taking probiotics after antibiotics, avoiding food before bed, and working closely with gastroenterology specialists for regular monitoring. A recurring theme was the unpredictable nature of autoimmune-related stomach issues, the importance of advocating for thorough testing when symptoms are severe, and the reassurance that these struggles are common and manageable with the right combination of dietary changes, medications, and medical support.

Good morning Joyce, the only stomach issues I’ve experienced were drug related. The first couple of weeks taking mtx then it went away on its own. For a short time I switched to leflunomide and had upset stomach and diarrhea. I went back to mtx. Keep us posted. Sending prayers your way for healing and relief 🙏🏻

RA and gut issues go hand and hand. I never know what my insides are going to do next. It's been a lifelong battle for me, but I've had problems all my life since childhood with various autoimmune disorders. I believe it comes down to the inflammatory process. Messes with everything.

They’re looking at your liver and gallbladder. I do not know but I believe the problem is with the liver and gallbladder. Not stomach or bowels. The primary problem.

Paula, it's great to hear you have an RA drug that works well for you. Very glad to hear it. It gives us all hope that there is a medication out there for all of us. It's just finding the right one.

Sorry to hear about your heart issues, surgery and exhausting recovery. Take getting back on your feet slowly. Best wishes.
