Members connected deeply over experiencing TMJ alongside rheumatoid arthritis, with many sharing that they've dealt with jaw pain, teeth grinding, and bone density loss for years, often unsure whether the two conditions were directly related. Several members emphasized the importance of getting a properly fitted mouth guard or night guard from a dentist to prevent further tooth damage, with some describing how custom mouthpieces, Invisalign braces, or even jaw surgery helped realign their bite and reduce migraines, facial pain, and tooth wear. A recurring theme was the value of protecting your teeth through whatever means necessary, whether monthly payments for braces or specialist consultations, because once teeth are lost the quality of life and confidence can significantly decline.

Hey I have, apparently I grind my teeth and clench my jaw while asleep due to arthritic pain, my dentist fitted a mouthgaurd to prevent further damage, due to bone density reduction from arthritis my jawbone has also reduced in size over the years, dental ex rays show almost 3mm difference in 2 years, hope this answers your question

The mouth guard works wonders - I had it for years that guard worked for me. I also have RA in my Jaws again the mouth guard. I don't like all the dentist stuff and grinding.

Hi Carol! I’ve had TMJ since I was about 20, I’m 71 now. Wasn’t diagnosed with RA until I was 40 something. Just this year I was told to get a mouthpiece. The pain from TMJ sometimes drowns out the RA pain. But I’ve never been told it was from RA. Just wanted to let you know your not in this alone. ❤️

Hey Carol, I have had TMJ for most of my life. I have damaged teeth and have had such pain. But what's pain? I wear two stents to keep myself from grinding my teeth out or simply damaging them. I wear the upper one night and then the next night I wear the other. I used to have crazy headaches from TMJ. I used to wear one during the day. I finally was able to wear them at night.
bye, Marcia

I had my teeth grinder by every dentist I went to except this last one. They ground my teeth to where one cracked bc it was just a hull. I had a root canal there and crown then they ended up pulling it anyway. It caused my other teeth to shift and one above it to loosen and start dropping down. My entire bite moved inward on the bottom left. So my dentist recommended these braces to alleviate a ton of issues and save my teeth. I dont want false teeth bc I know too many ppl who have terrible issues and drink their food or eat mush. I love eating real food and not having to hide my smile bc I'm loud and obnoxious sort anyway. Ladies, you don't know how much value your teeth are until you get them yanked out. Protect them and cherish them more than your hair. Make monthly payments or sell your jewelry but your teeth and jaws health are more important.
