Very definitely, and it has gotten worse! I'm lucky to have a PCP whose mother has it and has been a great listener. I also have a great support system at work. My best friend is a great support, and we share some other physical issues. We are not less than anyone else. Depression just goes along with RA, seek out people who will support you. If they won't it's their loss. Find a good therapist who will support you and help you through the dark times and celebrate the good times. Remember you are enough, you do enough, you are good enough. Treat yourself well. Depression may not go away but it doesn't define who you are.

Hi Carol Jane,
Thank you for sharing your advice. I go thru periods of depression, but think it could be worse if it wasn't for one of the meds I take for sciatica, duloxetine. I don't walk as much as I used to and it has affected my thought process of going out to dinner, visiting friends, or planning a vacation. I take it one day at a time.

Yes, I have both anxiety and depression. I have just finished an 8 week CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) class. It has been helpful in learning how to work with chronic pain. Anxiety and depression are part of the normal pain cycle. We have been working on relaxation, meditation , and self esteem. I have two more sessions to go,
I strongly recommend seeking profession help with any type of mental issues. Another thing I was reminded is that pain can be mental and/or physical.
