I see people comment that they take folic daily EXCEPT on the day they take their methotrexate. Why is this? I’ve been on MTX for over 15 years and was prescribed folic acid to take every day.

Methotrexate might have problems in cancer treatment if used with folic acid.

The actions of methotrexate on folic acid are not related to its ability to reduce inflammation and joint damage at the low doses used in treating rheumatoid arthritis

I will continue to take it every day per my rheumatologist's directions, but at my next visit I will ask him why some people are told to skip it the day they take methotrexate

Folic acid is used to lesson the side effects and can’t be taken same day as it interferes with methotrexate ❤️‍🩹
