I have been on meds for over a year (METHOTREXATE SODIUM 2.5 mg -7 pills every Sunday), HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE SULFATE 200 mg bid, Gabapentin 300 mg sid. I did Aria infusions and stopped those after 6 months. The only thing that ever helped was pred and the dr doesn’t want me to continue that. I am trying to change my diet and take supplements to see if that helps. Any thoughts on stopping RA meds?
Hi Charlotte,
As a new RA patient it usually takes about 3-4 months to see if a medication works. If not, the dr should switch to something else. I’m a RN who’s had RA for 30 years and been through many meds. Eating like the Mediterranean diet is certainly beneficial as it provides lots of antioxidants and is good for the gut. Be careful of some supplements as not all work with Rx meds. Be sure to run those by your dr to ensure safe. I encourage you not to stop your meds as RA will flare up with a vengeance. Talk with your dr and let them know how you feel. I hope this helps, Beth Mitchell
