I’ve had them for over two weeks. Only the ones that were on the side & tip of my tongue have healed. At times it burns just from drinking water. I am also on Hydroxychloroquine. I have a medicated mouthwash, but it doesn’t really help.

You know I've had those on and off again and never thought about it possibly being a side effect of medications. Mine seem to focus on the gum area. Very painful and uncomfortable.

I had horrendous sores too, and at times I lost my sense of taste. Even water hurt sometimes. I'm on methotrexate injection, imraldi injection, prednisolone, mycophenolate mofetil and alendronic acid. Since I changed from methotrexate tablets to the injection, my mouth is so much better.x

That sounds like an awful experience & I am so sorry you had to go through such pain. I just read up on oral shingles & I’ll contact my physician.

I’m prone to canker sores so I avoid most fruits & acidic drinks. I’ve even given up wine, which I miss immensely.

I went to a walk-in clinic & the doc swabbed for strep. She thinks the inflammation & cankers are connected to the meds. She gave me a lab req to check white blood cell count in the event that they don’t heal in 14 days. It’s been just over a week.

I have a follow up appointment with my Rheumatologist later this month, but I’m going to try to get in sooner. This has me anxious & frustrated, apart from the discomfort every time I try to eat or drink.

I had canker sores in my mouth. This lasted 28 days they were primarily on the left side of my tongue on the roof of my mouth heading towards the back of my mouth down to the esophagus. I lost 17 pounds I wasn’t able to eat or drink for over three weeks the pain was excruciating, it burnt to drink water. I ate Popsicles. I had multiple medications called in for me and my diagnosis from my primary was shingles in the mouth. My RA doctor then put me on a Medrol dose pack, which started to help….back to my primary doctor for the fifth time gave me an antibiotic , bacterial infection was ruled out strep was ruled out. Hence they came up with shingles in the mouth. I had an ear nose and throat doctor go down my nose with a scope. The top of my esophagus was very red and inflamed. The back of my throat felt like razor blades were cutting it on a daily basis. The only way I was able to drink water was to gargle with a lidocaine rinse, which was called in for me . It was the most awful experience I have had has anyone had anything like this, is this contributed to the rheumatoid arthritis itself or to medication. I am only on Embrel injectable one time a week. The the final diagnosis ended up being shingles in the mouth along with an ulcer in my stomach, causing reflux through my esophagus up to my mouth, causing the canker sores. I believe that is absurd, trying to find some correct answers.
