Hello! I've had RA since I was diagnosed at the age of 9. I've had several jobs and you just need to sit down and talk to your manager and let him/her know you have a medical condition, but it dosent keep you from being able to work.

I would start with a letter and medical evaluation from my doctor stating my health and medical situation, what level of work, weight I could lift, hours on my feet, etc and list of medications.

I'd mail it with a return receipt, to human resources and your supervisor, along with a personal letter of request for lighter duty. Return receipt mail bc people say 'we didn't receive that' or 'it must have gotten lost'.
Hopefully you will be reassigned to a lightweight job. Make copies, sign and date and keep for your records.

Paper trail makes everything official, noticed, and difficult to ignore or forget.

It's a tricky situation when you were hired for a position but got moved to a heavyweight job. Happens all the time.

Things to ponder? Is it possible that you could hurt yourself or others if you physically could not keep up with this job? Is it too physically demanding for you to continue? Is the job draining you and worsening your RA and affecting your overall health?

Would the company accommodate your request for lighter duty if they know you have a medical disability? Because RA is a disability. And disabled ppl are still hirable.

You must decide what you want to do, but.... If something happens on the job, could the company accuse you of withholding information like; they didn't know, they were not informed so...are they really liable for something they didn't know?

If you can do the job proficiently, don't ask your doctor for a medical evaluation letter.

A disabled person CAN still work and earn a certain amount each month while receiving disability. But you have to meet the requirements first. I think you have to have worked the last two yrs? But disability pays a portion of what you were earning.
