Members shared deeply personal and varied experiences about how diet affects their rheumatoid arthritis, with some finding no connection between food and symptoms while others reported significant improvements from eliminating gluten, dairy, and sugar or incorporating anti-inflammatory foods like ginger, moringa, spirulina, and fish oil. Several members emphasized that dietary responses are highly individual, recommending food diaries to track personal triggers and flares, with one member sharing that going dairy-free for 45 days eliminated hand swelling that returned when dairy was reintroduced. A recurring theme was the balance between medication as the primary treatment and diet as a supportive tool, with members encouraging each other to listen to their own bodies, work with their doctors, and find what works best for their unique situation without letting RA take away the joy of eating.

This disease of course has limited me physically and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let it change what I love to eat. So I depend on medication.

This is different for each of us. I have found that dairy products negatively affect me as well as sugars. Healthy eating seems to be individual. I have really noticed that since I have been on this site. I did 90 days with no dairy including whey. At 45 days the swelling in my hands was gone and they looked normal. Three years later I tried to add dairy back. After two weeks my fingers were swollen. I avoid dairy. Good luck finding what works best for you.

I follow an anti-inflammatory eating plan. Gluten-free, dairy free and only natural sugars. It doesn’t cure me but I do believe it helps.

Everyone is different! They say the anti-inflammation diet, but then that conflicts with my gastroparesis diet. Note foods you eat and see what causes more of a flare. Any RA Medication may work for someone but not for someone else. Best wishes. xo
