Members shared their experiences with Actemra infusions after the original poster's rheumatologist recommended switching from methotrexate, with several explaining that they were prescribed both medications together since methotrexate alone had stopped controlling their symptoms effectively. Many members described trying multiple biologics before finding one that worked, with Actemra proving successful for some after years of trial and error, though a few experienced side effects like itching, frequent infections, or raised cholesterol. A recurring theme was the importance of patience in finding the right treatment combination, utilizing pharmaceutical patient assistance programs to manage high costs, and understanding that medications can lose effectiveness over time, requiring adjustments to maintain control of rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.

Sometimes what we use can stop working for whatever reason. I was on Methotrexate for many years and suddenly it quit working. My doctor tried injections and several infusions and pills. I either had reactions to them or they would stop working. He put me on Actemra two years ago and it is helping.

The Methotrexate quit working. He then tried at least five other infusions and one oral medication. They would either stop working or not help at all. Actemra finally worked!

I have taken several different RA meds by injection and by infusion..I started out on Enbrel injections. Due to insurance I was then changed to remicade which after second infusion had to stop because I was allergic to it. Then I was put on Actemra infusions for about 5 years. Then I moved to Florida and had to find a RA doctor and he kept me on the Actemra infusions and then my numbers started changing on my blood test and he switched me to Orencia injections which I am still on currently. I have been in remission for 3 years now.

I admit I need to loose some weight, but it's not so easy to do.I could loose weight really easily when I was younger but now that I'm 57 years old it's not that easy anymore.

ACTEMRA, not Actembra is the biologic. I wonder like Mike and Pat why you are being taken off MTX. Is is usually given before the biologics and combined with them if you need more help.
