I've been taking Cymbalta for my chronic back pain, but I keep reading awful things about it. I've also had nearly constant gastric issues for the two years I have been taking it. I am close to the maximum dosage and don't feel it's very effective in helping relieve my pain, and I'd love to discontinue it.
I'll speak with my doctor, but does anyone have experience/advice tapering off Cymbalta?

@A myRAteam Member no, it hasn't taken my "happy". I think I've been the opposite, my emotions are like a runaway train some days. It worked on my pain some for a while, I just don't feel it's effective any more. With all the known side effects I'd just like to be done with it. I don't like taking medication, and would like to be off anything that isn't working well.
My neuropathy dr put me on Cymbalta 60 mg (duloxetine) for pain in my feet along with zonisamide 25 mg.x 2 in the morning and 4 capsules (100 mg) at night. She moves the zonisamide around but she leaves the duloxetine at 1 capsule daily. These pills help tone down the pain but it doesn't make it all go away and it doesn't help with the ra either. She told me that you have to be weaned off these meds.
I've had Chronic Pain for 30+ years. Doctors started saying, "low dose antidepressants help chronic pain." I played their games for a while. Games, meaning, they kept raising the dosage higher and higher. Along came Cymbalta. Low dose my a$$ (excuse my language). It made me confused, unable to concentrate esp on the job where my patients lives are in my hands, dizzy, nauseous, and sick. I've even had one office prescribe it against my will, practically forcing me to take it! The only antidepressant I can handle is Wellbutrin 75mg per day. Of course the doctor wants me on 450mg. Be your own advocate. Cymbalta has helped some people a great deal but it's definitely not for me. Work with your doctor on tapering off that stuff too because the withdrawals are horrible.
I took Cymbalta for nearly 10 years for depression and anxiety and depression.
The first thing I noticed was the nagging midback pain went away, she didn't mention that and I was amazed.
I later realized all emotions were gone ..like crying , anger act..just numb feeling. When I asked her about it she said yes it can take away your happy..WHAT??!!
If I missed a dose it affected my thinking , upset my stomach and just made me feel weird.
I would discuss this with your Dr but in my opinion a slow a taper is best.
Oh and that nagging back pain never came back.
I took it for anxiety and depression, for over 10 years.you definitely want to consult with your Dr about a taper plan.
I stopped taking because I noticed it took all my emotions away..
Terrible side effects if you do not taper.
