Sulfasalazine

This will be my fourth medication to try, so trying to get some input on it. Plaquenil gave me a rash and wasnt strong enough, methotrexate was pretty strong enough but had its issues and arava the first drug i took with no side effects i could tell and was actually working jacked up my liver enzymes so high i had to quit taking it. My question is, has anyone taken sulfasalazine and what was your experience with it? I have to take it twice a day and it says with food but i only eat dinner… read more

First I will say I am not a doctor. I suggest you talk to your doctor about the interactions of those medications as when I took them together I had many many issues. I lost almost 40 lb I could not eat and I nearly died but that is my story please check with your doctor or your pharmacist and ask about the interactions of any medications you are taking or look it up online or you can ask at arthritis. Org

Degrees sulfasalazine is not strong enough I you need another additional meds I'm on a Alvara

Had no effect for me. Was taken with methotrexate...did six months as required then moved onto next drug to trial.

Interesting you had suicidal thoughts with Methotrexate. It made me feel very depressed and generally rubbish, when I came off it my black mood lifted, it was such a relief.
I take sulfasalazine and hydroxychloroquine and my RA inflammation is pretty well controlled with minimal side effects but everyone will react differently to the various meds and get different results. Good luck
