Hi. I am taking 2 Folic Acid pills now (2,000 mg) and my hairstylist recommended adding Biotin 1,000mg. Pharmacist said its ok to use with the Methatrexate. Anyone have any feedback from using Biotin ??

Members overwhelmingly shared positive experiences using biotin to combat methotrexate-related hair loss, with many noticing less hair in the drain within just two to three weeks of starting supplementation at doses ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 mg daily. Several members described additional strategies that helped their hair health, including switching from folic acid to methylfolate for better absorption, adding prescription-strength leucovorin, increasing dietary protein through bone broth and protein shakes, and taking complementary B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, and calcium. A recurring theme was the relief and encouragement members felt in finding practical solutions that worked for their individual bodies, with many emphasizing the importance of persistence, consulting with healthcare providers, and recognizing that everyone's response to methotrexate and supplements can vary.

If nothing else, the new hair will be healthy!

Biotin works wonders! My hair quit falling out almost immediately. But...my white hair (which I like) started turning every color of the rainbow, so I quit using it. Lol I have since started taking B12 and that has also helped a little bit with hair loss.

I have been on Biotin for the past few years and take 5,000 mg a day. I also take folic acid daily too.
The biotin seems to help.

Hi Laurat: Are you taking methylfolate instead of the prescribed folic acid from the Dr ? How many Mg. and what brand do you take ? Online research states Folic Acid must be converted to its active forms to be used by the body. The enzyme needed to convert folate to its active form is called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). Most people (like me - confirmed by my dr) genetically have the reduced ability for the MTHFR enzyme to make this conversion. This creates FOLATE deficiencies !

Yes, biotin is good. You could probably even take a higher dose. Are you on a prescriptive folic acid or OTC. If OTC ask your rheumy to prescribe folic acid for you. It's more effective
