I am gluten free due to gluten/Gastrointestinal distress, but it doesn't help my RA symptoms or disease state.
Gluten is a cause of inflammation. I have pain and inflammation with my RA, I am gluten free because I do not want inflammation anywhere else in my body. I am trying to reduce inflammation not increase it. My doctor told me that being gluten free is a good idea. There are plenty of gluten free foods out there now, and most of them taste pretty good. I use rice pasta and even my family cannot taste the difference. I can tolerate sourdough bread which is safe for people who do not have celiac disease. There is a difference between gluten allergy and gluten sensitivity. One good thing, I lost 20 pounds eating gluten free. So even if you are not experiencing relief from RA on a gluten free diet, you are helping to combat those nasty auto-immune cells from destroying other parts of your body.
I tried the whole gluten free routine for two years. I felt worse. So now I watch the amount I eat an I am much better.
