Is it normal to have a pretty bad flare up and then get sick on top of the flair?

Unfortunatyel, it probably is not uncommon. Your immune system is a mess already. You weren't feeling well with your flare. There is a possibility that the flare was caused by whatever you're dealing wiht now, but it presented itself as a flare first because that's how your body reacts. I know when I'm getting sick (cold, virus) my RA and lupus go out of control. It's just too much for my body to handle. I hope you feel better soon!

It seems like every time I go to a family function I end up getting sick or I have a flare up. It's so frustrating!! I can't live in my house and not go outside forever because I'm going to nuts!

All the darn time!!!! Not only sickness, but my pleurisy and lungs go into hyper drive. I have to wait it out. Keep drinking fluid...not coffee or caffeine. That is the best thing for me.
