How to avoid infections on biologics

Considering starting Simponi aria IVs in Dr.s office as other meds cause too many side effects. My concern after reading the material given to me on this biologic is a high risk of infection. I am 39 and still have 4 school age children who bring home illness throughout the year as well as my husbands two adult children are both expecting babies this fall. How much of a risk are you to infection really? And how do you avoid it with so many little germ magnets around?? The… read more

Anyone using Simponi ?

Hello everyone,

My rheumatologist has advised that I move off my methotrexate/plaquinil/sulfasalazine combo and change to Simponi injections, once per month.

Can anyone advise me what to expect when using this drug please?

Do I still need to avoid alcohol and sun exposure?

Should I still take folic acid?

Apparently, I will be instructed on its use once funding is agreed.

I was told very little about this medication except it is very expensive and can work well for some people.

Anyone taking simponi Aria?

I've been moved from enbrel to simponi aria by transfusion and have had several infusions so far. The drug seems to be very effective and since after the first two infusions I only have to have it once every two months it's pretty convenient. My question relates to the impact the day of the infusion. I find the infusion itself to be pretty routine but I'm always so sleepy afterwards. They give benedryl with it and that does make me sleepy. It's just that I'm just useless for the whole… read more

Feedback on humira good or bad
