Yoga, Really????

Yoga, Really????

Why do I continually see yoga suggested as an activity when with RA, our wrists are some of the most affected joints? In fact, all joints necessary to get on and off the floor are the most painful. The latest advice I got was not to do any movement that caused pain. Ridiculous! That means no walking, cooking, or other basic motions necessary to survival. Extremely frustrated.

Hi I totally thought the same thing until I discovered adaptive yoga. It's chair based, low impact, and extremely gentle. The reason it's so much better than traditional exercise is that mind-body… read more

Are There Certain Physical Therapy Activities That I Should Avoid?

Are There Certain Physical Therapy Activities That I Should Avoid?

I know motion is helpful with pain and inflammation but are there certain activities that cause more harm than good? I broke my ankle and tore ligaments. I was completely off my foot for over 2 months. My surgeon sent me to therapy and I’ve told my therapist about my RA. He has me doing lunges and other activities (with a bungee cord) that kill me.
When I tell the therapist something bothers me he doesn’t understand. I feel like he thinks I’m just out of shape.

Excersize

Excersize

I'm new to this group but wanted to ask. How do you excersize? I have been trying to walk but I also have COPD so it's been hard, I used to be in such great physical shape but in the last few years I have become very overweight. I was just wondering how everyone else excercises when your joints hurt all the time.

Weight Gain

Weight Gain

Seems like the minute I was diagnosed with Ra I started to gain weight. It's been over 3 yrs and I haven't ever taken any meds for it. I was diagnosed with fibro after that and put on gabapentin and cymbalta. After I gained 35 lbs, I got off the gaba and in process of tapering off cymbalta. Not sure if those are the cause for the weight gain but I'm desperately trying to find out! I also have COPD and the extra weight is not good. 🙃 Any suggestions?
