Micky, same problem here. I have lots of tendon and muscle issues. How long have you been on the methotrexate? I take 20mg along with 400 mg hydroxychloroquine daily. I've only been on MTX (methotrexate) for 4 months. It helps some, but not even close to enough. I've been told it takes a long time to really work.

I don’t take methotrexate but I have severe numbness in my feet and I understand that is probably from just having RA. The only medication that works for me is 4mg prednisone, daily.

That widespread pain beyond just the joints is something many people with RA experience. RA doesn't only affect joints — it can cause inflammation in surrounding tissues, nerves, and other structures throughout the body, which can explain that deep, traveling discomfort from fingertips to shoulders or feet to knees.

Some of this could also be related to nerve involvement. Up to 20% of people with RA experience symptoms outside of their joints, including nerve-related sensations like tingling, numbness, or pain that radiates along limbs. As for methotrexate not feeling like it's working — that's really frustrating, and it's worth knowing that it can take several months to show its full effect. One myRAteam member shared that they felt worse at first but after about six months, things improved significantly.

That said, if pain is still widespread and unmanaged, it's really important to go back to a rheumatologist. Options they might consider include:

- Adjusting the methotrexate dose
- Adding another medication alongside methotrexate
- Trying corticosteroids or anti-inflammatory drugs for short-term relief during flares

Don't stop taking methotrexate suddenly without medical supervision — that can be unsafe. A rheumatologist can help find the right combination that works for you.
