If what i am experiencing are RA Flares, when it happens the pain and discomfort frighten me to the point of having anxiety attacks. I already have an anxiety d/o, i just feel like the pain and discomfort of RA and the unknown random symptoms trigger Panic attacks for me. Does this happen to anyone else?
You are absolutely not alone in this. Many myRAteam members describe a very real connection between RA flares and anxiety. One myRAteam member put it perfectly: "The pain and the anxiety feed off of each other. It's definitely a challenge."
The unpredictability of flares is a big part of what makes this so hard. Not Show Full Answer
I think that your answer is spot on Cindi! It is anticipating what might be . I used to get panic attacks because of Migraines. I would get my self worked up and usually have a panic attack. I think the same applies to all painful situations.
@A myRAteam Member I think the reason we might tend toward the panic attack feeling is that we've been thru the Flares before and in my case, everything is bad but not exactly the same. So we are not sure how awful it might get. If the last Flare was really painful and debilitating then how much worse is possible??? Sends us right over the edge into full blown Panic! You are not alone Pattie!
