I have RA, Fibromyalgia, and I have type II diabetes ( controlled without meds thank God). I also have spinal stenosis so that makes it difficult to determine what the cause of my back and leg discomfort is. I have moments in the day when I feel like I am dragging my legs along. A weak , painful, exhausted feeling accompanied with nausea. I also get light headed, and shaky. I have seen my Rheumatologist, a neurologist, a pain specialist a gastroenterologist and a cardiologist and I have had… read more

What a journey you've been on — and your perseverance through all of it is truly admirable. RA Warriors indeed! 💪

An RA flare is generally defined as a period when your symptoms worsen or become more active. The most common signs include:

- Increased joint pain, swelling, stiffness, or tenderness
- Extreme fatigue or exhaustion
- A low-grade fever
- A general feeling of being unwell, almost like coming down with something

Flares can last anywhere from a few days to several months, and they vary greatly from person to person. The symptoms you're describing — the dragging heaviness, exhaustion, nausea, lightheadedness, and shakiness — can absolutely overlap with an RA flare. Many myRAteam members describe flares as feeling like being "run over by a truck" with total fatigue and a throbbing, burning sensation throughout the body.

What makes your situation particularly complex is that some of your symptoms could be influenced by RA-related inflammation affecting areas beyond just the joints, which is known as extra-articular involvement. A few practical suggestions that may help:

- Track your symptoms — Keep a daily log noting when these waves hit, how long they last, and any possible triggers like stress, poor sleep, or overexertion. Patterns can be incredibly revealing.
- Note your triggers — Stress, illness, and overactivity are common flare triggers for many people with RA.
- Communicate openly with your rheumatologist — Share your symptom diary. Since your RA factors are elevated, your rheumatologist is likely your most important ally right now.
- Ask about your current treatment plan — If flares are becoming more frequent or severe, it may be worth discussing whether your current medications are still working effectively.

You deserve answers and relief — don't give up on advocating for yourself.

I am really trying🙁 Seeing my Rheumatologist today and trying to manage the motivation & courage to demand more effective care and actually that she take the time to listen to me; not just feel my hand joints, raise my arm above my shoulder and knee and report her findings to her Scribe🤬. I am so frustrated by this extremely well educated and highly rated doctor with no empathy, interest, or time to hear what I’m going through. A little compassion goes a long way when you’re feeling hopeless.

Pattie what you have been through stinks! I have no special helpful words. I do know your story sounds familiar as so many here experience some of the same. This site offers information on this RA disease. It also offer support for coping so I hope we can take something from “Myrateam”. Hang in there. Losing hope is scary! Please keep trying.💕
