Suzi,
Most RA meds Take 3 to 6 months to work on average. When you are starting a new med your Rheumatologist should be checking your bloodwork every 3 months to monitor any changes, good or bad. You may want to keep a log, with the date, time of day, med/dosage taken and any changes that you have, again good or bad to share with your Rheumatologist. This can help with any medication changes.
I hope this helps.
