Just be careful using methotrexate. I was on it a couple of years and ended up in the hospital for a week. It affected my lungs.

Congrats on taking that first step β€” literally! Starting methotrexate (MTX) is a big milestone in managing RA. Many people on myRAteam have shared their experiences, and it's helpful to know what to expect.

Here's what's commonly reported:

- It takes time to work β€” most people start noticing improvement between 3 to 6 weeks, with continued improvement over 3 months
- Early side effects are common β€” nausea, fatigue, and digestive issues are the most frequently reported
- "Methotrexate fog" β€” some people feel fatigued or mentally foggy the day after their dose
- Things often improve β€” many find side effects ease up after the first few months One myRAteam member shared that after about six months, the day-after fatigue they initially experienced completely went away. Another said after three months they had hardly any flares and felt more like themselves again.

A few tips that may help along the way:

- Take folic acid daily β€” it helps reduce mouth sores and digestive side effects
- Split your dose β€” taking half in the morning and half at night (no more than 12 hours apart) can ease nausea
- Stay in touch with your doctor β€” routine blood tests will monitor your liver and overall health

Always keep your rheumatologist informed of any changes you notice! πŸ’ͺ
