I am asking because I have been on Rinvoq for eight weeks now. I have seen a great improvement in my joint pain but my energy level is still non-existent. I have crushing fatigue all the time.

Members shared their personal timelines and experiences with Rinvoq for RA, with many noting that 8 weeks is still early and that full effects, especially for fatigue, can take much longer to appear. Several members offered practical tips including checking hemoglobin and iron levels since RA can cause anemia, considering combination medications like hydroxychloroquine or meloxicam, and exploring medical marijuana for pain, fatigue, and brain fog. A recurring theme was the importance of staying patient, advocating with your rheumatologist, and knowing that everyone responds differently to RA treatment.

It turns out that I have a systemic copper deficiency. My neurologist ordered two blood tests and they both came back abnormal, pointing to a copper deficiency. This actually explains all my remaining unexplained symptoms: crushing fatigue (despite my RA finally being under control), severe brain fog, tremors, muscle weakness, and weight gain. My hubby and I couldn't figure out that last one in particular. Since moving to Seattle (from Denver), I have gained 15 lbs...yet I barely eat anything since the RA caused my MCAS to be really severe and I have so many food allergies now that I am literally afraid to eat and have lost all interest in food due to having to go to the ER so many times. But apparently copper is the thing that removes fat from fat cells and burns it for energy. So if you have a deficiency, that process is halted and instead your body stores fat immediately.

I was previously on Humira but it didn't offer enough relief for my joint pain. It is interesting that you mention a flare because before my most recent flare, I felt like I was finally having some energy. Usually the steroid pack that I have to take for bad flares will make me jittery and have insomnia. But this time around, it only did so on the first day and then I was zonked for the remainder of the pack.

I found my hemoglobin levels were lower than expected after I started RA treatment. Google rheumatoid arthritis hemoglobin levels. I take supplements and adjusted my diet to help my hemoglobin levels which in turn helps oxygen in blood and increases energy. I started Rx for the anemia and consume more iron. Folic acid helps maintain healthy red blood cell production. Bring up the fatigue with your doctors. Are you on folic acid Rx?

Hi Lauren
sounds more like a long flare
I’m not a dr For me Rinvoc didn’t do anything. But I find my Humira is or was doing some good
Plus you’ve only been on it for 8 weeks in Ra that is only a moment. Be kind to yourself and keep going, hopefully soon some more relief will be coming
Take care Hugs
