Yes, many myRAteam members have shared experiences with leg pain and difficulty walking. It's a really common struggle for people living with RA, and you're definitely not alone in this.
Some things members have reported include:
- Stiffness and pain making walking difficult
- Needing to use a cane or walker for stability
- Fear of falling due to balance issues
- Being unable to walk long distances
- Pain that shifts or moves around different joints RA can affect joints in the feet, ankles, and knees, all of which play a big role in how you walk. When these joints are inflamed, every step can become painful.
If walking pain is significantly affecting your daily life, it may be worth speaking to your rheumatologist. They may suggest:
- Physical therapy to help with strength and balance
- Seeing a podiatrist for foot and ankle concerns
- Reviewing your current medications to better manage inflammation
- Using a mobility aid like a cane to reduce fall risk

I have had some trouble walking a lot but mostly in my hip joints. We went to a zoo in Denver and I was not able to walk more than half of it. This was about 9 years ago. Waaaaaay before I had RA. My hip still bothers me at times.
