Please get to the emergency room or call 911. A fever this high while being on antibiotics needs medical attention. I am so sorry that you are going through this. Please let us know how you’re doing. I am sending prayers and hope that you feel better soon. ❤️‍🩹

Fevers with RA can happen Show Full Answer

Hermina, what you're going through sounds absolutely exhausting and frightening, and it makes complete sense to want answers right now. You are not alone in experiencing fevers with RA — up to one-third of people with RA experience whole-body symptoms like fever alongside joint pain and fatigue.

Fevers with RA can happen for a couple of reasons:

- RA inflammation itself can trigger low-grade fevers as your immune system stays in an overactive state
- RA medications that suppress the immune system can make it harder for your body to fight infections, which can also cause fever

A myRAteam member described their experience: *"The low fevers seem to magnify the pain for me... miserable."* Given that your fever reached 103°F last night, this needs urgent medical attention today — please don't wait for a callback.

Here are some important steps to take right now:

- Go to an emergency room or urgent care — a 103°F fever with an ongoing infection is serious and should not wait
- Stay hydrated — drink plenty of fluids while you seek care
- Keep a cool compress on your forehead or neck for comfort

Your doctors are right to pause your biologics during an active infection, as these medications lower immune defenses. But with persistent pneumonia and high fevers, you deserve immediate in-person care. Please reach out to someone who can take you in today. 💛
