Members confirmed that low-grade fevers are a recognized symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, often occurring at night and signaling an active flare, with several sharing that their doctors or nurse practitioners validated this as part of the disease process rather than always indicating infection. Many members described practical coping strategies including using a small fan directed at the face during sleep, taking Tylenol or Tylenol PM for relief, and staying vigilant about distinguishing RA-related fevers from actual illness or medication side effects. A recurring theme was the overlap between RA fevers, nighttime chills and sweats, and hot flashes, which members attributed to the body's inflammatory response, certain medications like methotrexate, or hormonal changes from menopause or hysterectomy.

asked my drs nurse practitioner about the fever and was told it is a part of RA and i can take Tylenol for it. I notice it more at night when i am in bed so i have started sleeping with a small fan blowing on my face. I tried a box fan and that was to much for me because if a get a chill i end up hurting worse so fan on my face has worked great and and slept thru the night and on the nights i feel more pain than usual i will take the tylenol pm but the tylenol pm does not work if i am not using my fan too

If our bodies are busy fighting our joints and organs, thinking they are instead an infection, it would make sense i think to run a fever.

@A myRAteam Member I’ve been having chills for awhile now. I very rarely have a fever, just a chill. Sometimes it’s in the middle of the night. I hadn’t thought about it being a flair but I wake up a lot with low back and hip pain, then I feel like I’m cold and cover up more. I seem to be cold a lot lately and that’s strange for me. I hope you feel better.
