When methotrexate isn't providing enough relief, there are other non-biologic DMARDs that are used to treat RA. One worth discussing with your rheumatologist is hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), an antimalarial medication that is also a DMARD.

Here are other non-biologic DMARDs commonly used for RA:

- Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil)
- Leflunomide
- Sulfasalazine
- Minocycline

These are sometimes used in combination with each other or with methotrexate for better symptom control. Given the range and severity of symptoms being experienced, it's really important to speak with your rheumatologist as soon as possible. Some of those symptoms, like pericarditis, need careful medical attention and monitoring.

Your doctor can help determine the best combination of treatments tailored specifically to your situation. Don't hesitate to advocate for yourself and push for a medication review — you deserve better relief than you're currently getting! 💙
