I am having terrible side effects to methotrexate. I have cut back to 5 gm instead of 10. Dr says it will not help but I am going to try for 2 months and am also taking Tumeric.

Welcome, Carol! It's great that you're exploring options to manage your RA β€” you're definitely not alone in struggling with methotrexate side effects. Many myRAteam members have shared similar experiences.

It's really important to flag that changing your methotrexate dose without your doctor's guidance can affect how well your RA is controlled. If the dose is too low, your condition could worsen. Please keep your doctor in the loop about any changes.

Here are some approaches that have helped others manage methotrexate side effects:

- Folic acid supplements β€” One study found these reduced GI side effects, including mouth sores, by up to 79%. Many myRAteam members have reported real relief after increasing their folic acid dose
- Switching to injectable methotrexate β€” This can reduce side effects compared to oral tablets
- Splitting doses β€” Taking methotrexate in two smaller daily doses may also help
- Taking it with food β€” This can ease nausea
- Timing your dose β€” Some people take it on a Friday or Saturday to recover over the weekend

Before adding turmeric or any other supplement to your routine, it's worth checking with your doctor first to make sure there are no interactions with your current treatment.
