Great question! GLP-1 drugs like semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) are generating real buzz in the RA world right now.

A recent study looked at people with RA who were also overweight or had obesity. Those taking a GLP-1 drug experienced some encouraging results, including:

- Reduced RA disease activity
- Less joint pain
- Lower inflammatory markers (CRP and ESR)
- Improved cholesterol and blood sugar levels

What's particularly interesting is that the improvements in pain and inflammation weren't strongly tied to how much weight was lost. This suggests GLP-1 drugs may be reducing inflammation through other pathways in the body. That said, there are some important things to keep in mind:

- GLP-1 drugs are not currently approved to treat RA specifically
- About one-third of study participants stopped taking them due to side effects like nausea or stomach upset, or due to insurance and cost barriers
- More research, including larger clinical trials, is still needed

If this is something that sparks curiosity, it's worth having a conversation with your rheumatologist or primary care provider to see if a GLP-1 drug might make sense for your overall health picture.

Thank you for your answer, and I am sorry about becoming a diabetic. We go through a lot with RA. Hope you feel better overall.

I was on Mounjaro for about 6 months & it was great with helping me to lose the extra 15-20 lbs. I was carrying & wanted to lose but it didn't seem to improve my RA even though my Rheumy said it could help with inflammation for some. I initially went on it for high blood sugar but it didn't help enough & I went into Ketoacidosis & found out it was because my pancreas is shot due to long term use of Prednisone for most of my life for uncontrolled asthma & then for RA & I recently became an insulin dependent diabetic.
