What are the side effects of the SetPoint System for rheumatoid arthritis?

The SetPoint System is generally well-tolerated, but like any medical device, it does come with some potential side effects.

The most common side effect is hoarseness, which affected around 5 percent of people in clinical trials.

Just under 2 percent of participants experienced serious side effects. These typically occurred within the first three months after the implant procedure and included risks you'd expect from nerve surgery, such as:

- Pain at the implant site
- Infection at the implant site

It's worth noting that in the clinical trial, 75 percent of participants were able to stay off biologic or targeted synthetic DMARDs for a full year while using the device, and nearly half achieved low disease activity or remission after 12 months.

If you're considering the SetPoint System, discuss these potential side effects with your rheumatologist to determine if it's a good fit for your situation.
