I was diagnosed in November and started on methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquine. Stopped after 6 weeks due to horrific side effects including mouth blistering, rash, fatigue and nausea. This was with max daily dose of folic acid!
I then started Leflunomide which was stopped after 4 weeks after 2 weeks of vomiting!
I'm starting to lose hope.
I needed a lot of methotrexate but then I was recommended to add bio while staying on MTX weekly. Humira biweekly was a gateway for me but it is immunocompromising. That being said, I delayed starting Humira until I got vaccinated for some things in my 30s rather than several decades later. Biweekly pens, weekly tablets, daily supplements (folic acid, vitamin d, etc), and 4-to-6 month checkups have thankfully worked for me.

@A myRAteam Member there is hope! Stay positive! I started out with methotrexate but it affected my liver so my Rheumatologist put me on a Biologic called Enbrel! Its a once a week injection with a preloaded pen injector and It Works So Well for me!! I am very nearly pain free! That being said, I am diabetic so I also do a Mounjaro injection and I take Celecoxib for inflammation. Something, or maybe all of these combined, is working for me! There is hope! Keep searching!
I am one of the fortunate ones with this dreaded disease. The first medication worked for me, Methotrexate. However, the longer I took it, the higher dosage I needed. I am now in remission. The last time I took MTX, I was on the highest recommended dose by injection.
Hi. Don’t lose hope! I tried methotrexate alone for several months. Then I was on methotrexate and Humira. Followed by methotrexate and Orencia. Next was methotrexate and Actemra. Finally, methotrexate and Enbrel did the trick. It took about 4 years to figure out the medication cocktail that worked for me. Other people land on the right med right out of the gate. Everyone is different. Hang in there. You’ll get it figured out. But I realize it can be frustrating and disappointing until you do. Hugs.
