I was taking prednisone, but I am now off. I am not taking any other medications for RA.

Take pumpkin seed oil. Works better than prednisone with no nasty side effects.

Hi. Personally, without RA meds, the pain would be nonstop. Being on methotrexate and Enbrel has been a good combo for me. Other people may not be on medication and may be pain free. Have you been on any meds for RA? The pain can be very difficult to deal with. I hope you find something that works for you very soon.

How long does burning, needle-like hand pain from RA last?

The duration of RA hand pain varies from person to person and depends on whether the disease is being actively treated. Without treatment, inflammation and pain can persist and potentially worsen over time, leading to joint damage. With proper treatment, many people experience significant relief, though the timeline depends on the medication used.

Since you're not currently taking any RA medications, it's important to talk with your rheumatologist about starting disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) or other treatments to control inflammation and prevent joint damage. Products and treatments that may help:

Over-the-counter options:
* NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen can provide relief in less than an hour
* Acetaminophen for pain relief
* Topical creams, gels, or patches containing capsaicin or other pain-relieving ingredients
* Arnica gel applied 2-3 times daily
* CBD salve (where legally available)
* Numbing gels massaged into painful joints

Hot and cold therapy:
* Ice packs to reduce swelling and numb pain
* Hot water soaks or warm compresses
* Paraffin wax baths for 20-30 minutes
* Alternating between cold (10 minutes) and heat (10-20 minutes)

Other helpful approaches:
* Epsom salt soaks
* Splints or braces, especially at night for trigger finger
* Curcumin (turmeric) supplements with anti-inflammatory properties

However, these provide temporary relief. A myRAteam member shared similar concerns about burning skin sensations with RA. The most effective long-term solution is working with your doctor to find the right RA medication to control the underlying inflammation causing your pain.

I use a cream for my shoulders & hands, Frankincense & Myrrh. It is on Amazon & it really helps. I take Embrel once a week. I hope all of you have a Blessed Easter.
