Methotrexate can also cause Skin Cancer! For those that say otherwise look for books written by Dr Cognetta he's a dermatologist with years of expertise.
I started on Methotrexate and yes it worked great! 11 months later the skin cancer started on my head! I've had 16 spots of cancer removed and 8 spots with radiation!
I was blessed with finding Dr Cognetta as my dermatologist in Tallahassee Fl. He finally found out I was on Methotrexate and told me to stop it immediately. After talking with my RA Dr ( he didn't believe it could cause cancer ) I stopped taking it anyway, the cancer stop within a couple of weeks.
It was out of the blue that I found out about the cause of my cancer. Now I tell as many people as I can about the drawbacks of Methotrexate!
It may not cause you any problems but then again it May!

Research has shown that methotrexate use is associated with a higher risk of all types of infections in people with RA. The medication weakens your immune system's ability to fight off external bacteria, like the bacteria that cause UTIs.

Additionally, methotrexate can affect bone marrow, which produces infection-fighting white blood cells. When production of these cells is reduced, your body has a harder time defending against infections.

Some less-common side effects of methotrexate include:
* Burning while urinating
* Blood in the urine
* Dark urine

These symptoms may or may not be associated with an actual UTI.

If you experience any UTI symptoms while taking methotrexate, contact your doctor promptly. Early treatment is important to prevent the infection from spreading to your kidneys or bladder. Your rheumatologist may temporarily suspend your methotrexate while you're being treated with antibiotics to help your immune system fight the infection.
