Does anyone have any recommendations for medications for pre-clinical RA?

There are a lot of meds my doctor won't prescribe because I'm considered "pre-clinical." She mentioned two different types of medication, and how I need the kind that prevents joint deformity. I've tried two medications and both caused awful stomach problems so I had to stop taking them.
