I have been on enbrel since Jan 2020. Took a long time to get into remission I guess -been since early 2024-I am fine I feel despite the pain in hands and sometimes the fatigue. Have learnt to pace myself and slow down and it works. However I am considering going off Enbrel- I just hate the feeling of extreme exhaustion and I feel it is Enbrel related. At 65- I just want peace and some sense of normalcy. Staying off sugar, bread and dairy and ensuring my gut is healthy helps a lot. Havent had a real flare in almost 2 years and feel that -hmm this is as good as it is gonna get!! And am now dreading the pain from the injections - I have cut the injection sdown to twice a month and am fine. So far...

Has anyone ever gone back on a TNF blocker like Enbrel after it stopped working?
While the search results don't specifically mention restarting Enbrel years after it failed, there is some relevant information about going back on RA medications.
One study found that people who stopped methotrexate and then experienced flare-ups were able to restart their treatment successfully. About 75 percent achieved remission again, and 92 percent had low disease activity after restarting.
However, it's important to know that about half of people who stop biologic DMARDs (which includes TNF blockers like Enbrel) will experience flare-ups. This suggests the medication may still be needed even when symptoms improve.
If you're considering restarting Enbrel or trying a different TNF blocker, it's worth having an open conversation with your rheumatologist. They can help evaluate whether going back on it makes sense for your situation, or if trying a different medication might be a better option.
Some people do switch between different TNF inhibitors if one causes bothersome side effects or stops working effectively.
